Concerned neighbors, community leaders and descendents of Colonel Albert Pope joined together to form the Pope Hartford Designated Fund in 1996 to stop the decline in Hartford ’s historic Pope Park . The Designated Fund serves as the fundraising arm for Pope Park and supports its revitalization through implementing capital improvements within or related to the park. Since 2005, over $3 million has been raised in public and private funding towards the $13.6 million capital campaign goal. In partnership with the City of Hartford , Pope Park Designated Fund is committed to improving Pope Park for all to enjoy.

The revitalization of Pope Park offers the community a better quality of life by providing safe venues for family oriented programs and recreation. Over 40,000 people utilize the park annually for organized athletic programs and passive recreation.

The following are principal outcomes outlined in the Pope Park Master Plan.

bulletImprovements in safety both to and within the park with better entrances and paths and well located amenities such as open-lawn, play structures, amphitheater, picnic areas and active recreation spaces.
bulletRestoration of the remaining historic elements of the park. Restore the original lawn and shade tree landscape of the Park so that its historic character is maintained.
bulletExamination of ecological systems at Pope Park and maintenance programs to encourage healthy growth patterns, park usage and proper water maintenance.
